Leonardo Dicaprio Loses Best Actor!
Anonymous asked: He deserved the Oscar
Why? His performance was not special, and very similar to other roles he has played.
I’m so happy that Leo didn’t get the Oscar. He did not deserve it at all.
Actors without Oscars
A lot of people are saying that Leonardo DiCaprio should win the Oscar this simply because the Oscars owe it to him for snubbing him in the past. I don’t agree that he deserves it all. Also he has had plenty of recognition. He is only 39, and yet he already has his 4th nomination for acting. This led me to creating a list of talented actors how are older than him and have less noms. Note: some of these actors have not done any roles worthy of an Oscar, but are still very talented.
12 Years a Slave: Movie Review
It was amazing. While it wasn’t my favorite movie of the year, I think that it was the best movie of the year (haven’t seen Gravity, Dallas Buyers Club, Philomena and Captain Phillips yet though).
It showed slavery for what it truly was. While today it is universally accepted that slavery is wrong, people back then were raised with different morals and different understandings of right and wrong. People today like to villainize all slave owners, but that simply wasn’t the case. Some were awful, cruel and sadistic people, but others were relatively civil people that were just a product of their time. The film showed both type of slave owners. It also showed how different slaves dealt with it. Some slaves simply accepted their life as a slave and just tried to continue to survive, while others tried to resist it.
The cast was incredible. Chiwetel Ejiofor’s performance was amazing. He was emotional and sympathetic. I truly felt for him throughout the whole movie. By far it was the best performance I have seen this year.
Michael Fassbender was perfect as a sadistic slave owner with no morals. However, I’m not so sure he deserves the Oscar like everyone says he does. He is was one demential.
I give it a 9.7 out of 10
Her: Movie Review
I thought that this movie was simply amazing. The way Spike Jonze portrayed the relationship Theodore and his operating system, Samantha, was beautiful. The relationship had its high points and its low points, its beautiful moments and its awkward moments just like a normal relationship. It truly makes you wonder what makes a relationship real. While the idea of dating a computer is a very strange idea, Jonze was able to make it seem normal. The movie was hilarious at times, and extremely emotional at other times.
Joaquin Phoenix did an amazing job as Theodore. Seeing him slowly regain his love of life was very well portrayed. However, Phoenix’s acting was not nearly as amazing as Scarlett Johansson’s. Samantha was simply just a voice: no body, no limbs, no face, just a voice. And yet, Johansson was able to make her come alive. Johansson portrayed more emotion through a voice than I thought was possible. She made Samantha seem real, and made it completely believable that a man could fall in love with her.
Overall, the movie was amazing, and unlike any movie I have ever seen before. I give it a 9.7 out of 10.
The Wolf of Wall Street: My Opinion
I did not really like the film. Maybe I missed the point of it, but I just do not understand why it is getting so many awards and nominations.
I am perfectly find with nudity in films, but it should serve a purpose. In Wolf, they constantly show fully naked women for no reason at all. Majority serves no major plot point at all.
I did not like the characters at all. I got the feeling that the idea of the film was for us to be rooting for these crooks, but I was not. I was happy when they all got arrested. Additionally, all of these characters were very one dimensional. We saw them party it up, do drugs have sex and obsess with money and that’s it. There was no emotion to it. I do not understand why Jonah was nominated for the Oscar. His character had very little depth to him.
Leonardo DiCaprio was good in it, but he played the same type of character he played in Catch Me If You Can and The Great Gatsby, a person who relays on his charm to get his way. The role is not a stretch at all for him. It annoys me greatly how all over Tumblr people are saying that he should finally get the Oscar he deserves. He has three other nominations, which is more than a lot of great actors like Gary Oldman.
The final issue I had was the length. About 2/3s into the movie, I had enough and wanted them to wrap it up already.
The Positive: The movie is pretty funny and definitely not a bad movie. I give it a 7 out of 10.
(I will like people to give me their opinions on the movie, but don’t just say that I am wrong without explaining why I am wrong).
Academy Award Nominations
I’m really disappointed in the nominations. I can’t believe that Emma Thompson got snubbed. She was amazing in Saving Mr. Banks. She plays a character who is both likable and unlikable, which is not easy to do. While I thought Amy Adams was great in American Hustle, she was nowhere near Thompson I do not understand why Jonah Hill was nominated. His performance in The Wolf of Wall Street wasn’t bad, but there was nothing special about it. And Martin Scorsese for best director over Spike Jonze for Her? There was nothing special about the Wolf, instead just an over abundance of drugs and nudity. Her was emotional and really makes you think what makes a relationship real. I also don’t get why Pacific Rim wasn’t nominated for visual effects. The movie really shows the difference that special effects make in a movie; if it had mediocre special effects, the movie would have been awful, but it had amazing special effects which made the movie very good.
I haven’t seen Captain Phillips, so I can’t say Tom Hanks was snubbed, but I am extremely surprised he wasn’t nominated. I also haven’t seen Inside Llewyn Davis, but I am surpassed it didn’t get any major nominations.
